Why doesn’t anything use Bluetooth

A great thing about the Mac is that they all use Bluetooth. So your mouse and keyboard wirelessly works on any other mac device, be it a mac pro, imac, mac mini, ipad, ipod or iphone.

It’s nice when a standard is used like this.

I’ve noticed that if you buy a wireless mouse for the PC they pretty much always they come with some propriety dongle. You have to go out of your way to find a wireless PC mouse that will use Bluetooth – they’re few and far between.

I understand that PCs rarely come with Bluetooth built in – but wouldn’t it make more sense to give a Bluetooth dongle away with the mouse instead of giving away one you’ve made yourself. You can pick them up for less than £1.

So.. why is that? Is Bluetooth not good enough? Does it use too much power? Do they have to pay a license fee to use it?
